Expensive noise?

Just started, graunching noise (like not bothering to use clutch) when changing from 4th to 3rd, all other changes, up and down, still sound OK.

Simple or (as I expect) pricey?

Tried double de-clutching (perfected that last year when the clutch "went" several hundred miles from home), didn't seem to make a difference. BTW it's a '73 Series III Lightweight.

Recon gearboxes arnt really that pricey. Alternatively you could buy a second hand one, plenty of people are breaking landies (check the ads here and on the magazine forums)..

Its about a days work to swap the gearbox. less if youve had practice!

Theres an ex-military dealer near to me who'll sell you a gearbox from a series 3 that hes stripped, and then swap it for another one if its not good enough. Can't rember how much he wanted, but it wasnt much!
