Gearbox 'snicking'

Apr 02, 2008 4 Replies

My 200 Tdi 90 has started snicking and occasionally crunching when going from 3rd down to second, doesn't do it all the time. ISTR that this is a pretty common issue but is it likely to get worse and is it something that can be attended to? It is still under warranty so will report it but need to know some facts.

TIA

before you get unduly worried bleed the clutch system costs nowt and aint hard to do. Derek Kato is FS at

ISTR the 2nd gear synchro is prone to get weak. I wouldn't worry about it, however, if no other symptoms emerge.

My old RRC used to do this when going into reverse and first. All sorts of thoughts went through me head about what was wrong, even got to the point of pricing up new gearboxes. Then i checked the clutch fluid level......none at all!. Topped it up, and after 15 mins with a self bleeding thingy clutch was like new.
