HELP!!! 99 Disco 2_Driver Door won't unlock manually and fob is dead_ NO ACCESS! Yikes!

I rercently washed my Disco2 and when attempting to enter vehicle afterwards, the lock mechanism simply wouldn't engage at all,( as though I am turning key in butter).

I'm sure the washing was not related at all.

My remote fob hasn't worked for months so remote access is a no go!

A Landy mechanic suggests that it is mechanical ie: the arm has popped off or something.

Is there any way of gainig entry and avoiding the nuisance alarm that might be triggered? Not sure if it sits superalarmed or not.

I heard you can gain access externally to the hood latch by removing the driver side headlamp. I managed to remove headlamp, but can't seem to unlatch the hood. My reason is I'd like to disconnect the battery terminal and avoid waking the neighbors if I find some way to crack the locks.

How can I get into my vehicle???

Any info Appreciated.

Good day all

Sounds like it.

But when you open the "hood" the alarm will go off as there is a switch on that other wise tea leaves could just do what you propose...

Use a brick? Bit drastic maybe. Cut out one of the rear windows that are glued onto the body work. Don't know how much getting it stuck back on would cost or even if that is possible...

Tea leaves???

Can the driver side window rubber drip molding be removed to gain access to door mechanism?

Cockney slang -- "thieves"

Do you have breakdown cover?

Are you near / friendly with a dealer (cars!)

I'd check with these first -- having had to dislocate my wrist to get a door card partially off a 110 in similar circumstance but for the fact four other doors still worked I'd advise strongly on refering this one to the specialists and take the hit on the wallet if needs be... trim cost can be frightening but also consider that your probably going to screw up something thats currently not knackered but probably will be once you get started.

If it was something mechanical then the other four doors should still be opening... unless every door has had the same failure at the same time which would be pretty dammed unlucky.

Unfortunately no! I would have to say...major design flaw. One access point only....drivers door8(

Well you used a left pondisium so I thought I'd use a right pondisum.

Tea leaves = Theives. B-)

Donno, I would like to think since any decent modern car protects the door mechansium from hooked ruler or bent wire attacks.

If it were me, I would look into fixing the remote, or replacing it. I think a new one is about =A3100 to =A3120 and useful to have a spare anyway. At least you should be able to get into the car this way.

It may be that you could poke the unlock button on the dash with a long wire?

Wish I had thought of that one...it just might have worked! Instead I had to have it towed (120.00) to my mechanics who ended up having to drill into the lock and replace broken interior rod. This destroyed the door handle and he replaced with used one (140.00) which required a locksmith to reset the lock @ (47.00). When all was said and done this ordeal cost me around $500.00 Canadian dollars and I'm still without a working fob remote unit.

I would advise any Landy owner that if your remote goes south to have it repaired/replaced, cause when your disco refuses you admittance you had better believe you ain't gettin' in.

I'm going to post a new Header asking advice in the area of remotes. Thanks for the help.
