SRS light on Disco- dealer only reset?

Is it true that on a 96 Disco the SRS light is a dealer only reset, even if you actually fix the problem? Just wondering if I should bother even trying to sort it myself, or book it into a dealer next time I'm in the UK to have the codes read / reset.

Cheers,

Matt

Mine comes on intermittently (D2). The dealer has had a look, and it's the seat belt pre-tensioner on the passenger side. CBA to have it fixed, but I'm pretty sure you will need Rovacom or equivalent to reset the light.

Mine on my D2 comes on intermittently whenever the wife has been in it and pulled the seat forward (little legs). Its a loose connection under the driver seat. I "diddle" the wires and turn off the ignition and when I turn it on again, it goes out. No dealer reset requirement. However this is only a loose wire, it is not a fault on any of the SRS equipment. I had a look around the seat area, but realised the D2 probably has seatbelt pre-tensioners, which the D1 doesn't. Had a good look around the fuse box area and the wiring for the airbags (I think it is that stuff in the yellow plastic conduit) looks decidedly Heath Robinson! especially with a random wire coming over and plugging into a spade connector by the fuses. Messed about with all the connections but it hasn't made any difference. Is there any harm in pulling out the SRS fuse without disconnecting the battery?

Hi Matt, I'm not sure. I'll ask my son who's a Landrover techy tonight at home. He'll know. Obviously if a pre-tensioner has gone then it will have faulted and need replacement and reset on testbook. I'll try and let you know in the morning. But you are right, its the yellow conduit and connector under the seat that does mine every time.

Bryan.

Hi Matt, sorry for the delay. If you pull the fuse it will throw up loads of faults including major SRS failure. Don't pull the fuse. I would suggest you go to either a main dealer or an independent who has a testbook available. Bryan.

Thanks for that Bryan. Presumably that is why there is a yellow cage around the SRS fuse!! Trouble is LR dealers are rare around here and specialists even more so! I guess a trip back to the UK is in order to get it sorted. Also got the ABS light coming on occasionally so can get it all sorted at the same time.

Cheers for the info,

Matt

Dunno about next to Poitiers, but you have Cholet, Nantes and La Roche Sur Yon, as well as Paris, all of which are closer than the UK. Of course, if you are goning there anyway...

How did you get on with getting the registration info from LR France?
