how do i select low ratio in P38 manual?

Low box should be selected by pressing the button whilst stationary with the engine running, in neutral and with your foot off the clutch. Its a right royal pain the arse and it beats me why we just couldn't have a simple lever. Come to think of it has anyone ever tried and suceeded in converting from electronic operation to a lever?.

When towing heavy loads it's very useful sometimes to be able to pull off in low and slip into high on the move to maintain momentum. It uised to work fine on the RRC, but is impossible on the P38 ;(

It says in the book that you need to have the clutch down AND the footbrake. Do you need either then? Im lost now!!

At a guess it has seized due to non-use. Just like vehicles with manual levers :) If you can get under there you'll see the motor that trys to engage it - give the gubbins a good soak in WD40 or something. Keep it up for a few days and then try again? If you keep trying with it crudded up/seized there is a good chance the motor will burn out :(

I thought about this but i reckon because the "select neutral" message is coming up its the electronics that are playing up. I downloaded the manual last night and spent an entire an hour or two looking through it all. It appears that there is a neutral position switch on the top of the main gearbox and I reckon that must be faulty. Like you say, i suspect that this must be through lack of use / lubrication. The switches are only a fiver so worth a squirt as i dont want to strip the top off the box, only to find that i need to go and buy one before i can put it back together. What do u reckon?
