Kitting out my Defender

Unless blue is for authenticity, it's not worth the possible hassle. Stick with amber. Magnet and steel plate works well. I once epoxied a steel plate on the outside of a truck cab. The magnet will grip a plate inside. Just don't have anything breakable the plate might drop on, when you want to stow the flasher.

Steel plate inside the roof, pop rivited from above with silicone between particularly around the holes/rivets. (this is the neater way, if it were me I'd have the steel on the outside for a better magnetic grip, same thing with the silicone and pre-painted with happerite, touched-up once rivited).

I don't know where you are located or your intended use but my first question would be are you authorised to use a blue beacon? Anyway, apart from the suggestions already mooted how about using a spigot mount available for tractors etc and available from all decent agricultural supplies places? These mounts come in a range of styles and consist of a pipe with a plug let in the end into which plugs a suitable spigot mounted beacon. The pipes often have a plate welded on the end for bolting to the vehicle but some are available where the pipe is hinged to the plate which enable it to be folded when not in use.

At work we had a blue beacon on one of our fork lifts a few years ago. It has to go on public road to get from one building to another and we were told by the police to remove it.

The reason for the beacon is that I'm dressing up my Landy as a Military Police vehicle for an airsoft event; that's why I'm wanting to use a magnetic beacon, so I don't fall foul of any laws when not on private land. I'll ask the local garage to mount a plate, then. Cheers, folks!
