leaking injector pump 2.5td

Hi all. That's gratitude for you, just changed the gearbox in the 2a a couple of weeks ago now its sprung a diesel leak from the body of the injector pump, its coming from the seal between the (warning technical bit) cylinder shaped back part of the pump joins the box shaped front part. After chatting to the local diesel specialist (who says they never leak from there!) I am now in a bit of a dilemma, to replace the seal needs the pump to be completely stripped down which will cost more than a replacement second hand one. So is it worth a gamble with the second hand one? According to the workshop manual there is a tool which allows you to remove the pump without removing all the timing cover/belt etc, anyone ever used one of these, and where can I get one? the part number is 18g1457 or would it be possible to fabricate one?

Thanks in advance Icky

Getting the injector pump on my 2.5 n/a reconditioned made a load of difference to the engine, and made a vast improvement to it.

I assumed that the reconditioning process at my local diesel specialist included a strip down of the pump so they could replace any bits that needed doing, and check the rest of it. thats what they implied, and they told me they replaced some bits inside it, and i think i was charged a standard fee plus a few quid for the extra bits they replaced.

Would it not be safer to get your existing pump reconditioned and in the process fixed rather than getting an unknown second hand one?

I think it was about £80.

It got rid of the permenant smokescreen, gave it more go, and made it tick over a lot better.
