Driving home last night, my main beam stopped working. When I operate the switch, the dipped beams go off, but the mains and the warning light do not work. I'm just about to go out with the multimeter and prod around, but it sounds like the switch is not working. I have a feeling that the replacement stalk/switch is v expensive, or might it just be dirty? I'll let you know if I can find anything.

Or a wire has fallen off probably in the steering wheel cowling where they all join. Switch, about £20 from Paddocks so not worth trying to mend it.

Thanks Bob. I have just been out to have a look at it all, and all the wires seem to be in place. However.....
the 'flash' function works fine, so it's not bulbs or earths.
i can see the contact that is made for the 'flash' switch (a wire from a fuse to the main beam wire), and I can see the contact for the dipped beam (which is made when the stalk is in its normal place and broken when it's pushed forwards for main beam), but I can't find the contact for the main beam (which makes when the stalk is pushed forwards).
It was getting a bit dark so i didn't take the switch off the steering column beacuse I wasn't sure that I'd be able to get it back on! Maybe that's the way forward. It's really frustrating not even being able to see the bit that's not working!
I'mm try again in the daylight tomorrow!

Stalk comes off easily but be careful you don't break either of the self cancelling plastic springy things, they are rather fragile, I speak from experience!
