OMG! - He BREATHES!

Yesterday I visited a Jag breakers yard and got a pair of the correct carbs for Percy my Jag powered IIa. Having learned my tinkering lessons a long time ago I gave them a quick swill off with the appropriate cleaner and left them on the shelf untouched and unmessed with.

Today after doing the Saturday shopping trip I threw the Carbs onto Percy. Modifired all the pipe work accordingly and resigned myself to the fact that the AED fitted to Jag carbs would be busted. I piped it up such that I can clamp off the AED with some brake pipe clamps.

I borrowed one of Morphs new batteries.

I inserted the key.. heard the pump noted change to let me know the floats chambers were full.

I checked for leaks then fired Percy up.

And then it happened.... that momement..the one where you ask yourself why didn't I do this two years ago insteady of playing with underpowered Carbs... I tickled the throttle... scared myself to the point I daren't work under the bonnet with the engine running. Turned him off and walked away to learn some more respect, and to change my pants.

Just need to find the correct aftermarket AED modification kit now.

Noticed the rad has an additional vent it shouldn't have so need to sort that too :-(

As for the road test.. I may sort a short drive-cam mpeg... once I get it in camera shot.

I persume that is Active Emmisions Detection. and not Automatic External Defibrillator, although maybe?

Yeah I nearly needed one!

It's automatic enrichening device, it's infact a mini SU carb it's self which weakens it's mixture the hotter the gases get that are sucked through it from just beside the manifold.

The conversion kit apparently I'm cold uses a eccentric wheel affair to close doen the needle thus weakening the mini carb / choke depending on how you look at these things.

A pair of pipe clamps shuts off the fuel supply completely ... I'd considered just installing a soleniod but I'd like a little more control over it being an auto and all that.

Seem to recall something like that on 3 1/2 LITRE SS Jag 6cyl pushrod engine, had a pair of massive SUs with this weird little lectric thing between them. Sort of solenoid operated choke.

Should be interesting .. 'specially if you can get sound as well .. ;)

had a pair of massive

I seem to remember the part number was LZX1963 - dont ask me why I remember that!

It was a very small solenoid/actuator.

Well, I'm 37! I don't feel old (well, that's a lie, I feel like shit after 2 full blown 5am party nights!) but I know what you mean!
