OT - life's little pleasures

Don't quite know where I'm going with this post, but it's Sunday, there's nowt on the box and I'm a little bit puddled, so here goes...

It occurs to me that the things that make me happy are very simple. Looking back on the weekend I've done all the usual crappy middle class shit - DIY store, PC World, washed the car etc. But it doesn't raise much joy.

But it's been a very good weekend. What made it good?

i) fresh, very high quality sausages from the local farm shop (pork and leek on this occasion) washed down with three fried eggs and an unhealthy amount of brown sauce

ii) a bit of hard labour - filling an 8 ton skip with all (well most of) the crap in the garden

iii) a cheap bottle of white wine (I'm now on the third bottle)

iv) having a cup of tea with the four women in my life (mum, missus, daughter and sister)

v) Throwing Muses on the stereo (and a slight glow of achievement as an old, otherwise useless PC is now playing MP3's through my stereo)

vi) the thought of 8 bottles of beer awaiting their fate

What made your weekend great?

had fun doin' harchery, and visiting some friends, and doing various DIY things for them, including failing by various means to extract an old lead sink drain pipe from a wall, I reckon it's been bent to fit round the bricks or something.

fun tempered by the amount it cost in oil.

did I mention that I'm after a decent V8?

1)my series 2a that i`m selling didn`t fail its MOT. Woohoo. But thats cos the garage couldn`t fit it in on saturday...... 2) didn`t have to go visit the wifes parents

3)Spent sunday afternoon driving all the green lanes in west yorkshire with a good mate. Had great fun, finished off with a massive plate of stew with hunks of crusty bread and yorkshire puddings. All washed down with a gallon of your finest beer.

happy days.......

Went for a drive round Ladybower, Derwent and Howden reservoirs to see how low they are before they fill again. Got some video from the same place we got some from about 12/13 years ago showing the village .. amazing how different it is, and how little is left .. ;)

Then went to in-laws ....

Sunday meant to go off-roading, but too muddy and slippery, when we got there, for BFG AT tyres on the hills near us .. so came home and cleaned the Disco .. got a little tipsy over lunch and napped all afternoon ... ;)

Great weekend ...

Picking up Paul from the station on saturday morning, him having survived the rail system from Fleet intact. Having Indian Bahjies/samosa type things and pickle for lunch two days running! Fitted the passenger side footwell to chassis bracket and splash guard on BigBlue, thereby ticking off yet another job before it can go on the road. Realised it might actually be on the road for christmass (shhhhhhh!). Sitting on the sofa last night watching the log-fire realised that friday was the 'official' mortgage paying off day, so we might get the deeds before christmass. And I dont have to go to work today cos I'm 'between jobs' as it were. Okay so it might not appear "great", but it worked for me.

40 miles of off road in Derbyshire including Stanage edge and it's rock path.

Started 10am and finished at 7pm. Excellent.

Ed If you'd looked up you'd have seen us!

I'm looking at a couple of options ATM, though Swansea's reasonably close. If it's a V8 and done a moderately low mileage, I might be interested in the engine - won't want the whole thing though.

Heheheh .. dammit .. ;)

Mind, we had swnbo with us and she has a problem with her inner ear at the moment, so off-roading, even mild green-laning, gives her real vertigo stylee problems .. which is a bit of a bummer at the moment.

Took about 15 mins start to finish

Took longer to sneak the card back in her purse though...

'course, to be pedantic, Free Agent is free, as it says. However, the additional functionality of the full version is well worth the 29 bucks it cost to register it.
