replacing the head of Freelander K Series

Chaps,

I need some special bit/socket to get the 10 head bolts loosened on my Freelander. It's clearly not an ordinary socket, maybe some type of torx but Im not too sure.

What tool do I need, and where can I buy it ??

Cheers /c

I can't give a definitive answer here as my Freelander is a TD4, not K- series, but it's possible that what you have is in fact a conventional (but 12-sided) bolt. I've found them (for instance) on brake calipers, and for sure a conventional hexagon socket won't fit... but my very old Elora set (given to me for my 21st birthday, and still going strong over 40 years later, albeing with one or two replacements

-- see the Ship of Theseus thread!) has sockets that are more like 12 grooves, and they do the trick.

You may have to go to a specialist tool supplier and get the appropriate size to fit both the bolt and your socket drive bars -- much cheaper than buying a full socket set.

Cheers Graeme, I'm not quite old enough to have had a set for 40 years, but close enough, so I will see what I have got lying round in the basement. Alternatively the spec tool supplier will benefit :) Thank you. /carsten
