Strange vehicle.................

In Sheffield today, looked like a 101 but was more 'foreign' looking. It looked FFR & was Nato type green. It was a left hooker. I saw it up near the Children's hospital. Looked nice! Anyone know what it is? I was down London road this afternoon but never saw Grumble ;(

Santana made a FC model for a while. ISTR twin headlamps.

Then again there are oddities like the stonefield.

The 'older' chap driving clocked me looking, bet he though i was a right knobcheese as i burned him off in me 4.2!! I was on a call out & had no choice but to take bob on a bloody great detour 'cos of a big smash on the M1 south. Normally for long distance runs I take the Subaru, but i got caught out halfway etc. I was crapping my pants as to what MPG i would get on a half motorway, half A/B road blast. Truth is i got an average of 18mpg. Livable considering if I give the Subaru serious pain i get less than 20!

The main thing i noticed is the utter comfort i got there & back in! It also corners like a bloody car, good car at that.

Shame I know, but Land Rover can't and won't compete in this weight category. Pinzgauers (TUL(H)) are built in this country now in Guildford although the Austrian design is nearly as old as the Land Rover. The manufacturers ATI have been bought out by Stewart and Stevenson so is now American owned. First pinzies were bought to tow the 105mm light gun after the debacle that was the RB44. Much more widespread now that Bowman is too heavy to fit in TUL(M) ie wolf. RAF and Royal Navy use 6x6 versions as do Royal Signals I believe.

Having rambled on, the other possibility is that is was a B=DCCHER Duro, a s Swiss built vehicle coming into use in specialist applications. The Duro has a flat front where as the Pinzgauers radiator sticks out. Can you give a better description of what you saw? We could be totally wrong! There is an ex Serbian TAM around here that looks like a 101!

Could also have been a Volvo C300, they look very much like Pinz's and seem to be a popular donor vehicle for Landy portal axle conversions.

Yes but just a small part of it, you can see various models outside from the mainline as you approach guildford from London.
