[wanted] locking nuts and/or key

They look very much like Britpart - but the ones on the shelf here are 3/4/5 splines - I've never looked, but I suspect the spline count is randomised as they are supplied under one part number.

I guess you've checked all the usually hiding holes and the bottom of the jack handle bag, seat pockets and under the seats at the front.

Could be worth a trip down to the local tyre fitters they would have them off in no time for the cost of a beer I'd guess.. oh and don't forget to check the spare (visions of order to Richard for new wheel carrier - they all do that!).

Each nook and every last crannie has been probed - yes, the jack handle bag is present, the jack is apparently awol, hiding with the locking nut key no doubt.

not any more - ATS won't touch 'em - and this is not the first time I've heard of tyre fitters getting shy. Only takes one idiot to whinge about scuff damage on their alloys and now the boys aren't allowed to help. I'm lead to believe that a cold chisel is the prefered removal tool among those with a more pragmatic approach.

ok - good point - yep, there's a locking thingie on the spare too.

I'm afraid I have to remain one of those awkward b*ggers and defer that decision until the week before. If that means all the accomodation/camping slots are taken then so be it. That said, I'm hoping to make it baring fire or flood catastrophe between now and then. Either vehicle should be up to the trip, though neither is really fettled for off-roading at present - getting there (slowly).

I've a vague recollection of a thread on this but in a nut shell ours is by the air intake under the tyre wedge.

No sweat, I'd imagine there would be spaces on the site if last Octobers unofficial is owt to go by, It's pretty much the last camping weekend of the year in most peoples diarys.

o That weekend marks the end of British Summer Time. o Anglesea is almost 300 miles from here (by road).

using a combination of half learned formulae and pub math approximations I reckon Anglesea to be roughly 180 miles more north than here so probably on average about 2 degrees colder.

We can only pray the weather is like last year, but theres a pub/Inn The electric mountain tour is as I understand inside a mountain and whats off roading without a bit of water :-) and at least there won't be a zillion gates to open like the last greenlane trip we did.

The diddy threaded bracket/plate thingy (4 off) with two holes that goes on/in the 110 rear crossmember to bolt grab-handle/bumperettes to. As well as the necessary bolts/washers.

Anyone know the thread used in the 'NRC5804 Nut Plate - Rear Grab Handles Defender'? Looks as though it may be an M8.

For those interested (and perhaps reading this in the archive) the Emergency Locking Wheel Nut Remover Kit also arrived from Screwfix today. Select the right size - the largest one is needed for Defender/Discovery. The unit has an internal reverse thread - you wind it on till the resistance to cutting more thread is greater than the reluctance to turn - and away she comes and you can fit your new locking or plain wheel nut. That was the easy bit. Now you have to get the remover tool removed from the old locking wheel nut - you will need a good vice that is bolted to the planet - also advise you have a longish breaker bar to hand. Don't forget the reverse thread. Rinse & repeat till all wheels done.
