Welding...

I've just learned that my new QT Services front diff guard needs two little brackets to be welded on to the front axle. Trouble is, I don't have any welding equipment, and my welding is pretty rusty and rudimentary, so I'd probably blow a couple of holes in the axle even if I did.

I could ask a local garage to do it, but round here they'll charge me more than the diff guard cost. Anybody vaguely local to me (Surrey / Berks / Hants border) who would do it for beer money? It's a 5 minute job if you have the gear.

TIA, David.

If you can get to Newbury, and are willing to hold me irresponsible for any ill effects, I'll have a poke. Mail me @hotmail.com with "welding" or somesuch in the title line if you're interested.

But if I were you, and knowing how I weld, I'd hope someone else volunteers :-)

I'd be happy to, but I'm in Yorkshire....

I thought the QT diff guards just bolted on quite easily, i was told i wouldn't have to make any alterations to fit them. Dont think i'll be buying them if i have to modify them, which is a shame as they look well thought out units.

That's correct on most models, but not the Disco II, because the panhard rod gets in the way, so I'm told. So Disco II is a welding job, others are bolt-on.

If you took the time to read the following on the QT site you wouldn't be asking such basic questions!!! "The Qt Diff Guard bolts on to all Defender Classic Range Rover and early Discovery axles and can be used front and rear to protect those soft bits. Coming zinc plated provides that extra level of protection and quality you would expect from Qt services"

And where, Wayne Kerr, does it say on the website about having to weld the Disco II guard? It doesn't, in fact. It also doesn't mention the rear slider fitting the Disco II, which it does. So the QT website isn't exactly the answer to everything, is it now?

So reading the website doesn't answer all the questions. If you took the time to do your research, you'd wouldn't be making such cretin mistakes.

You mouthed off that your Disco would feature on Watchdog in the week & it didn't take an expert to see that your Disco wasn't an "EARLY" Disco, the QT site clearly states "The Qt Diff Guard bolts on to all Defender Classic Range Rover and "EARLY" Discovery axles" Therefore didn't it occur to you that you can't bolt to your model?? You never made any reference to any rear sliders etc in your first post so maybe you should do your homework before you go posting for advise & as you have highlighted some errors in their site why didn't you ask QT before you purchased from them?

Wayne,

You're clearly a total loser - one of life's sad dropouts - so go and troll on somebody else's newsgroup. I'm not even going to lower myself to replying to the crap you posted above, you're actually arguing against your own post. Go on, little boy, run along and play in the traffic, hopefully you'll do us all a favour.

You could pop across J3 and borrow my MIG if you want.

Thanks very much, but I've now arranged to visit QrizB on Sunday - offer much appreciated though.

TBH I'm best not let loose with a welder, given I've only ever used oxy-acetylene.

I'd have given you a choice of three!

Still it's best you don't get to comment on my poor overloaded 110 or neglected 101.

Slight change of headers as I migrate to adsl.
