I'm pretty certain that Defiant's (1990 disco) xfer box is now on its way out, and I reckon my quick fix would be to swap it for a different unit.
Now I know the one thats in there is a 1.22 - but what are my options?
The gearbox is an R380, would a xfer box from a classic rangie mount up to it - i'm thinking about one with a viscous in it so as to get away from the difflock issues I have now

I changed the viscous coupling type on my RRC for an older 230 because the viscous coupling was siezed so they ARE interchangeable, the only difference was I had to redrill just one of the handbrake backplate mounting holes as it was in a different position. I have since seen a viscous type transfer case smashed because of a broken chain and the casting was extremely thin, more like an eggshell than a substantial gearcase, so I will now stick with the older type.

the BW type ones are about 2" shorter between flanges than the LT230, IIRC, so you need the right propshafts.
I forgot about those, yes, I also used the props from the earlier donor vehicle.
