Why do the wheel nuts on my P38 have shiny metal caps (these are not locking nuts, just ordinary) and what am I supposed to do when one of them becomes so loose that it could easily fall off?

My Defender alloys have the same thing.
I always worried when torquing them up.
Some people like shiny things!

Throw it away ... or leave it until it throws itself away.
