They've gone three model years and the problem still lingers. IMHO, if it was a simple fix, they would have fixed it by now.
I don't understand why the fly-by-wire code has to "learn" a damn thing. Why can't they just hard code the damn thing (the way it comes from the factory) and don't let it change itself based on how you drive. Wouldn't that fix the problem? Assuming the lag doesn't occur in a showroom model.
I have another question. There is a button in my 92 ES300 that is right below the gearshift handle. It's labelled something like "ECT" "POWER" "NORM". Does this button have any effect on the fly-by-wire/transmission lag behavior? The only thing I (think) I notice about this button is the engine revs a little higher before the transmission shifts up when in the POWER mode.

The new models do not have the ECT Power/Econ mode anymore
