My 205D has a wobbly wheel at around 40-60 mph. I checked the front wheels and the nearside one has a looseness when you pull it using the 9 O'clock 3 O'clock positon. You get a small movement and a "click" when you rock it. It does not move at all when useing the 12 O'clock 6 O'clock pull. Does this mean that the wheel bearing is OK, and the looseness is caused by a worn track rod end etc. I'd be pleased for someone to put me right here.

If it doesn't get noticeably noisier when turning right & quieter when turning left the it's probably not the wheel bearing, & probably the track rod end. Whilst you're doing it changing the antiroll bar links normally makes it a lot nicer.
Sounds like a trackrod to me. Try taking the wheel off and pushing and pulling the sterring knuckle/hub assy directly.
