406 immobilser problem

Hi all,



I'm hoping someone can help me out here because with it being Sunday no one at Peugeot will answer the phone.



I have recently bought a 1996 406. The guy I bought it from forgot to give me the immobiliser code. This wasn't a problem as the key is coded somehow and as long as I start the engine quickly enough it works fine. The guy has been out of the country but has now sent me the code. I thought I'd try it out... I guess after the first failed attempt I shouldn't have bothered trying it another 2 times... I'm not sure if he's given me the wrong code or what but now it is beeping constantly and I can't start the engine.



Any ideas please?

Sorted now, I left it for a while. The code I've been given is obviously wrong or something is not working. Is it costly to have the pin reset or found out? I have no card or details for the immobiliser...

Its a while since I had a 406, but from what I can remember ...

The immobiliser can be put into one of two modes. The first requires the PIN each time the car is started. The second only requires the PIN if the car is not started within a few seconds. I always had it in the second mode without any probs (and it sounds as if yours is in that mode). If you take too long to start the car, just press the keyfob to lock the doors, unlock them again and then start the engine.

The issue might come if the battery has to be disconnected? Never happened to me.

I guess a Pugrat dealer can reset the code at a price.
