I have a problem where the engine management light keeps flashing preventing the car from starting, there seems to be a click, as if from a solenoid when turning the ignition to position three, then the light starts to flash, can anyone throw any light on a posible course of action. Cheers.

If the engine management light flashes before you even try to crank the engine over, then this is indicating a problem with the transponder immobiliser. This could be as simple as using a new key that hasn't been programmed yet, to a knackered immobiliser ECU. Try another key - if it works, have you dropped and split open the other key recently? If you have, then you have probably lost the transponder chip from inside. If none of the keys work, then something is amiss with the system and a computer such as TECH2 (Vx dealer) will be needed to diagnose and rectify the fault. You will need the 4 digit vehicle security code (not radio code) which should be on a card in the vehicle document pack. If you don't have it, then it can be obtained from Vx by a dealer for a small charge. No work can be carried out on the immobiliser without this security code.

Thanks for the advice, it was indeed the key, I was trying to start the car with a spare key i was given with it, but it hasnt got a black top and so no chip either! I was unaware that the key should have a chip inside so the 'spare' that ive got is obviously useless. Thanks again.
