'98 Clio 1.2 Engine / Transmission 'roar' over 40mph

Feb 19, 2007 0 Replies

Can anyone help please? My son picked up the above car after it had been laid up for 3 mths. Generally it is in great condition (1 owner

58201 miles), but having test driven it there is like a 'roar' from the engine or g/box when going over 40mph. This seems to happen at road speed rather than engine revs, leading me to believe that it must be g/box or front wheel bearings. I did the usual tight turns to check the CV's, which are good. The noise does vary if the steering is 'waggled' from side-to-side while it's happening.

Anyone heard of this problem? Having not worked on a Renault Clio before, is it a big job to get the wheel bearings changed?

Any help would be gratefully received.
