Air Con Query on BMW 5 Series

My 2001 520's climate control makes a whistling noise when the air blows through the vents at low speed - (no problem when fan is working faster). Any ideas please

Check the microfilter to bulkhead trunking - especially the driver's side

- since this has to be removed to check the brake fluid. It's a sort of bayonet fitting at the bulkhead, and easy to replace wrongly.

Best to remove the microfilters and housings and clean out all the crap (leaves, etc) that gets lodged behind them, and give the filters themselves a hoover. You'll have to anyway, to check the trunking is properly fitted. Give the housings and trunking a good wash off the car while you're at it. All this can be done without even one tool. ;-)

I think you'll find the tool needed is a BMW owner ;-)

Those sort of BMW owners wouldn't know a microfilter from a Micra.

And you're certain the trunking is properly located where it meets the bulkhead? 'Cause this was the reason on mine - but it's not obvious by looking.

You could use a bit of tube as a stethoscope and listen round the joint with the heater on - there should be no leaks.

However, of course it might be something else. Try the E39 group in my sig.
