air in fuel filter

I've never had one that doesn't have air in. Fuel starvation problems could well be due to a crimped or kinked supply line.

Air in the filter is quite normal, even though it looks like it won't work with it there!

If your pump is fine then I would suggest the fuel tank isn't 'breathing' - try removing the cap when it starts to run 'dodgy' and see if it improves...

is there a tiny filter directly on the needle valve in the carb? or on a banjo union at the carb?

my book only gives illustrations, so it is not clear if there are any filters actually in the carb, but many types do have filters on the needle valve
