Any preference for tyres?

If you can afford it, stick with what works. I was persuaded to change brands by a tyre dealer once, and ended up regretting it.

Always worth ringing round for a better price however. Independents will often beat the first price you get.

Costco is a popular place for buying Michelin tyres. The savings could pay for a year's membership.

True, but as my nearest Costco is about 40 miles away I would rarely go there. I can't find out how much the tyres would be there in order to find out if it's a viable option - but thanks anyway Tim :o)

I'd probably go for the Michs.

Last time I got 205/55 16 and they were £80 or so each at Costco. We do not have one close, but find there is a significant saving....

I've got 'em on the front of the Saab at the mo, replacing a set of Pilot Primacies, bizarrely 'nuff.

They're not bad at all. Definitely better than the Mich Energies. I think, on balance, though, I'd go for the Michs if I had the choice, which I don't, because Energies are all Bib sells in 195/60 16 V now.

Without doing a back-and-forth, it's difficult to say (particularly because the Contis went on almost straight after the winter tyres came off), but I'd say the Michs had a bit better turn-in and were a snidge quieter.

I had those Contis on the Touran from new. They lasted 23,000 miles on the front. Switched to Bridgestone ER300 which have now covered 27,000 and still have 3mm on them. Can't tell any difference in handling and they were a few quid cheaper than the Mich or the Conti.

You could try etyres.co.uk - it seems to be some sort of franchise operation. The two gentlemen who replaced the tyres on my car were friendly and polite and seemed to take care over the operation, even putting copper grease on to make it easier to remove the wheels in future. Supplying them with iced water on a blazing hot day might have helped :-) Also, a tenner a corner cheaper than anywhere else I looked.

Have used E Tyres in the past and found them very good (Birmingham area where wife works) although recently they seem to have become dearer than BlackCircles and much dearer than my local independent.

I was surprised recently to get the best prices from National Tyres online (for some Uniroyals). They were a tenner each cheaper than Blackcircles and twenty quid cheaper than the National Tyres depot that actually supplied and fitted them.

Oh yes, my favourite tyre. They actually gripped well in the dry, but were awful in the wet. They were awful on the Puma in the wet too.Avons on the next MX-5 were lovely tyres though.

The Activa has Michelins on. The only fault is they're a bit noisy. Despite trying on some roundabouts and country roads , I've not come close to having it slide, wet or dry. I'm beginning to get the impression that if you go fast enough to lose an Activa, it's going to result in a very nasty accident..
