Bad Condensation in Mornings

Feb 10, 2004 10 Replies

Anyone any idea why I get bad condensation problems on frosty mornings on a Volvo V40 with ECC?

The ECC system is working correctly and the drain vent has been checked and clear. But every time there is a frost on the screen I get terrible condensation until the system has thoroughly warmed up.

Never had thing like this before on cars with or without aircon.

Any ideas?

Cheers. Roger.

Tim, replaced that a month ago, yes it was blocked but it hasn't fixed the problem. Thanks anyway. Roger.

My wife's had similar problems with her Mondeo. I've resorted to a dozen sachets of silica gel (£2.50 or so from 7dayshop.co.uk) which dries it out nicely.

We pop them in the oven for a bit each weekend (after every other day for the first two weeks).

Not orthodox, but it works.

I'll give that a go - I have problems in my car too, but I know that the windscreen needs resealing. The fun bit is having to scrape more ice off the inside of the windscreen that outside!

You haven't got the aircon system set to "recirculate" have you?

Me too with my Berlingo van. First few miles of each day are spent with window open and steam floating out of the air vents :-) I wondered about the heater matrix, but the carpet is dry and it doesn't seem to be losing coolant.....who gives a toss, it's not mine :-)

I don't know what to dry out! The car doesn't and everything seems to be ok.
