Believe it or not the smallest van I know has a seven foot choke cable, and the engine is under the seat! Vauxhall want =A315 for this beast, does anyone know where I can get a Universal cable that long please? Or somehow fit a piece of any old wire into the old choke knob?

why not attach a bit of string ? 15 quid for a cable is quite common these days. try a breaker
Assuming it's just the bowden cable (inner) that has failed, you should be able to buy it by the metre from a bike or motorbike shop along with suitable nipples.
But 15 quid seems quite reasonable for the complete item.
Thanks everyone, I suppose I'll have to cough up. I was hoping the five feet universal cables at about 1GBP per foot would be sold in eight feet size, oh well
