the emissions fault button is flashing on my dash board - wot does this mean and will it cost me arm and leg and is it still safe to drive? cheers

It's Ok to drive for a bit, but you should get it checked by someone with a fault code reader as soon as possible, as a running problem may damage the catalytic converter, adding to the cost of the repair. It means 'something is wrong' :-), but the only way to find out what is get the codes read.
