CALLING Rover V8 experts - How easy is it to Supercharge one ?

Still got a pair here but in need of major renovation.

Not a hope. Trying to blow a big engine with a little supercharger is a real mug's game. You're quite likely to _reduce_ performance that way as it's more of a restriction than a boost.

It's not cheap to supercharge a Rover V8 as there aren't many people flogging inlet manifolds for it and it's an awkward shape to fabricate one. Given the availability of cheap turbos these days it's probably easiest to go the twin-turbo route (like everyone and their dog already does).

Oh dear. The standard Vitesse single plenum 3.5 gives 190 bhp. Scale that up to 5 litres and you get 270...

Power doesn't scale with engine capacity which you'll note if you carry on to my next post in the thread.

could barring the extra >capacity which won't affect the peak power hugely anyway, it'll just reduce the revs it's produced >at.

Interesting point - but surely it depends on whether it *does* reduce the revs peak power is delivered at? After all, maximum torque should scale reasonably accurately?

Surely, with plenty of TVR owners clubs etc and enthusiasts, someone would have flagged this already when they took their car to a Dyno shootout day and found they were all crap?

You cant massage that much out of frictional losses - thats VAST amounts different and theres generally accepted figures for different transmissions that are fairly accurate - unless all TVR owners or RR places are out to bullshit i just cant see it being that far out. On my car its generally accepted to be fairly close to what Toyota suggest -

200 at the fly. On a recent north/south shootout day one team drove from from north to the south (or vice-versa) to "normalise" the data off both dynos being used. The difference quoted on the control car was 2-3hp which could have been affected by it being late, colder, oil hotter etc by the second run. We had a few cars drastically below what they were expecting so its not like they were trying to fudge good results.

If this were ever found to be true there would be an uproar and i doubt uk.rec.cars.maintenance is the only/first place this has ever been proposed?

I know nothing of rover v8s so im only speculating, but I just cant see a giant conspiracy being pulled off that well.
