Carrying, but not using, red diesel in a vehicle?

A pal of mine has a 60yo truck that I've been involved in the restoration of over the last few years. This summer it will be going to a few shows. Truck has two large fuel tanks. These are interconnected by a steel pipe with valve at each end. Only one tank is piped to the engine (8 cyl Gardner). His intention is to close the valves and remove connecting pipework. The running tank would have white diesel whilst the secondary would be half filled with red to try to minimise corrosion.

Would this be legal and acceptable to the authorities?

The tank dipping brigade are normally loitering around the shows. Used to be HMC+E but now might be HMRC or VOSA, I don't know.

Many thanks,

Nick.

While I imagine VOSA'd be amenable to being shown a show vehicle where the tank's not connected, it seems a jolly inefficient way of protecting the tank. I'd look to get it sprayed inside with grease/paint/zinc primer/WHY either by a long nozzle thru the filler or a hidden flap cut somewhere.

As long as the tank is seperate to, any pipework removed , unions/ valves replaced and terminations within the tank blanked off so that the tank can not be connected there is unlikely to be a problem, if you just remove a section of pipe between the two valves then they may be a tad suspicious

Wouldnt it be easier to fill the tank with white desiel far less hassle

Yes. At work we had generator trucks which used red diesel for the genny.
