City Rover (last question)

I think they import the pickups, but I can't see any incentive for them to import bits for the Indica.

I'll be staying brand loyal - just the opposite end of the brand. SL65AMG please!

If I won the Euromillions, I'd probably be most likely found driving a £40 Proton most of the time...

...though my garages would be somewhat packed with more exotic machinery like a Ventora FE, Allegro 1750 Estate, Tatra (both 8x8 truck and V8 aircooled), Trabant.

Oh, and a pair of Bugatti Veyrons.

Heh. Sounds like my Uncle - he's quite a sucessful used car dealer and property developer. In his garage are an Interceptor and some horrible Panther Kalista type thing..... his daily driver, when going around doing his various calls to contacts in the trade is a knackered old Volvo 200 series Estate. It really is horrible.

His reason for this is 'I get better deals if they think I'm broke'. Seems to work, anyway.

Lol. I've been running through the 'fantasy garage' myself recently - and yes, I'd need a rather large hangar to house a collection of pristine condition s**te old cars.

Nah, that's so vulgar. People would think you were a footballer ;-)

I've heard some s/h buyers using a similar ploy. They come round in a battered old heap and beat the seller down. Then when they come later to pick it up, arrive in a smart expensive car. Mike.

Cor, I'd love another one of them. One of the most enjoyable cars I ever owned, that was.

My brother's bought a couple of barns on the Welsh borders and to blend in a the builder's yard he's bought an old Series 2 LardRover. He reckons he gets a far better service than when he turns up in his swankmobile.

Wouldn't 70 Rover Citycars be more grand?

Yeah I learnt to drive in a Metro - bloody good fun it was and I had one for a few years as my first car. Enjoyed many hours of "student" driving it it :)

Pal of mine had a 1300 estate. Surprisingly good car.

The message from "Ian Johnston" contains these words:

Spacious, reliable (apart from the rust), adequate power (particularly in the 1750!), reasonable economy for the era and with the hydragas system let down half an inch or so from the original slightly tiptoe stance, quite cornerable, too.

I even liked the looks of the estate, though the saloon left me cold.

That'll be the tin worm, then.

The K-series Metros were pretty damned good - apart from the incredibly uncomfortable rear seat.

Even some of the A+ models were pretty good - much better than equivalent Festers of the era.

Not even that. Just the falling value of used cars vs. the cost of maintaining them. Anything over L-reg just isn't worth the effort for most people, and really, for cheaper cars R-reg is the cutoff now.

It's a shame, really, because a lot of older cars are much nicer than the cloned s**te that's being produced these days.
