Daewoo Espero and broken cam belt

Just had to be recovered after suffering a possible broken cam belt on a

1996 Daewoo Espero 1500. It happened on the motorway doing around 70mph. The engine made a lot of noise as i got to the hard shoulder. Anyone with experience of having such a repair done and how much did it cost etc? The recovery man said i may have got away with the tensioner breaking and not the belt which may not be as bad as it seems.

The "alot of noise" should tell you. This is an interference engine and if you didnt immediately dip the clutch the moment it died then i'm afraid you will probably have a scrap cylinder head rather than afew bent valves. Sorry.

Sorry to hear about the car.

If you want my advice a repair is likely to be very expensive for the car. You might be lucky but I expect damage and you'd be looking at a very expensive repair.

Scrap the car and go to the local auctions. You should be able to pickup a Daewoo Nexia or Espero for about what the repair is likely to cost you.

A re-conditioned engine might be an alternative but in my view just get another.

The daewoo the throw away car.

Possibly take it into yur local Nationwide Autocentre (formerly Lex) as they don't charge you anything for looking and giving you an opinion of what's required. Nothing to lose.
