Daewoo Spares

What is the spares situation with Daewoos nowadays? I've seen a couple of really low mileage Nubiras (50k-70k) but I don't know if spares are easily obtainable since the take over a couple of years ago.

Vauxhall took over that side - spares seem perfectly obtainable, but are often ordered in, rather than being off the self - in my experience of a few weirdo fuses and a crank-shaft sensor, anyway.

So you reckon they'd be a reasonable buy? I've seen one about 8 years old with 70k on the clock for about £1500. Do you reckon it would last another

60k miles or 3 years in my case.

Ah - that's a different question...

I got my Lanos 1.6 for 6k at 2 years old (98), bugger all on the clock, ex-courtesy car used by Daewoo (Guildford).

Got a few minor things fixed in the first year under warrenty.

It's a perfectly good drive, though I think the power steering is a bit light.

Paintwork is well done, only hint of rust is where a chip where the PSF door hits the house wall!

However, some components have let me down:

Water pump threw it's seal at about 35k, cost a bomb (part cheap, work required a lot of bits to come off the end of the engine to gain access).

Starter went last year - 90 quid recon, emabarassed to say I didn't fit it 'cos I couldn't get my spanners on one of the nuts(!)

Has a current problem (see other thread) with weird starting problems.

But it's still a lot better than a Fiat!

Brakes (and ABS) are excellent.

I think the engine and drive train is quite well built, electrics are done quite well on the whole. Few knocks and squeaks from teh suspension, but I expect that with an 8 year old cheap car. The worst bit is working in the engine bay - everything is inacessible!

The message from "Malc" contains these words:

Have a look through ebay's completed items - you'll find very few go for that much.

1500 for an 8 year old? You could get a proper car for less than that.

Indeed you can... I'm thinking of a '98 Xantia TD Estate for around a grand.

That's a diesel estate, making it the most desireable model in the range, and it's still cheaper than the Vauxhall in drag.
