i have a n reg fiat punto 55sx 1.1 and it will not go into gear can anyone help or does anyone know what the problem is , someone told me the cluch cable has gone on it but not sure at all any help would be brilliant and i would be very greatful as i know nothing about fixing cars.Thankyou shaun bishop (pontefract,west yorkshire)

You'd know if it had - the clutch pedal would feel all floppy - certainly wouldn't come back up from the floor.
If it isn't that, then it still may be the clutch.
Does it go into and out of gear with the engine off? If it does then it's likely to be the clutch. If it still doesn't then either there's something wrong with the box, or the linkage - or sometimes the engine mounts have got so wonky that the linkage can't do its job properly.
If you reply - could you use a few capital letters where needed. Reading text without them in the right places is harder that without and since you're asking for help it might be nice to humour those you're hoping will help you!
