Focus 1.8 year 2000 Gear Lever

Sep 22, 2009 2 Replies

The gear lever on my Focus 1.8 (December 2000) has lost the 'spring' that holds it between 3rd and 4th when in neutral. Is this a fault within the gearbox :-( or a broken bit of elastic somewhere :-) easy?

Its a common Focus problem but its quick and easy and cheap to fix. You need to remove the gear lever gaiter and undo the plastic retainer held on by a single Philips screw. There you find a broken spring. Ask your Ford dealer for a Focus gear lever return spring. He will know exactly what you mean and will probably have it in stock. It will cost £4 to £5.

If you google it, you might even find some photographs showing the procedure.

Thanks Paul £5.17 and fixed before lunch.
