Ford CTX specialist

Can anyone recommend a gearbox specialist used to dealing with the Ford CTX gearbox please? (Ford's CVT). Preferably in north/east London, Essex or Herts areas. SWMBO's 1997 Fiesta 1.25 Zetec has one, and it has started to whine quite loudly, so presumably doesn't have long to live.

TIA...Nick.

Ok, can anybody recommend any good automatic gearbox specialists in the London/South East please? Looking on the web, most seem to deal with CVTs as well as normal automatics. This company sounds good to me, has anybody had any experience with them?

The *ONLY* firm you should entrust any work with as far as CVT's and the like are concerned are King Automatics in Epsom.

'97 Fester?

Cheaper to scrap it and buy another.

I know what you mean, but it has a genuine 54k miles, has been very well maintained, and it's in excellent condition. Finding another Ghia auto with aircon wouldn't be easy either. So on balance we've decided to get the gearbox sorted rather than try and find another one.

Seriously, don't bother.

Rebuilding one of those properly will cost you double what the car is worth, that's if you can find someone who can do it properly - and it'll only go again very soon afterwards.

I've used this lot and they were ok. At least they actually recondition the actual box rather than just fit a replacement.

It would be best economically to look for another tatty one with an auto box that you can drive before purchase, strip the box out and swap it over to your one.

A full recon means a new box, probably in the region of 2000 pounds
