ford ka failed mot on emissions

I have just had my ka mot'd however I have been having problems with the car for over a year with it cutting out and guddering on acceleration however ford could not tell me what was wrong. The emissions readins were



Fast Idle Test Engine speed 2920RPM PASS CO 1.36% FAIL HC 353PPM VOL FAIL \ 0.952 PASS



Second Fast Idle Test Engine speed 2920RPM PASS CO 1.60% FAIL HC 187PPM VOL PASS \ 0.948 FAIL



Natural Idle Test Engine speed 884PM PASS CO 3.49% FAIL



Can anyone tell me what this could be? :confused:

Could this be the problem with the Idle Control Valve???

From those results, its runnng rich all the time. There are only one or three reasons for this, ad if your local Ford dealer cant sort it, go elsewhere to a recommended firm.

Either its not warming up fully, the temp sensor is faulty, or the Air mass meter (or MAP sensor if it is 1999 onwards) has a problem.

I'd also be concerned if the cat would survived this?

Lambda sensor too?

It's running rich - have you noticed that it's using lots of fuel?

We've just had ours tested, passed, with:

Fast Idle

2,650 rpm (pass) CO 0.00% (pass) HC 14ppm (pass) Lambada 1.02 (pass)

Natural Idle

802 rpm (pass) CO 0.09% (pass)

Now as I understand, the ECU should have flagged a engine fault, but any Ford dealership would have plugged it into the FDS2000 unit and would have seen the problem (temperature sensor, air mass or MAP, as Tim pretty much said).

So, sack your dealership first off :) and have these items checked....

It may need a new cat if it's been running rich for some time now. :-(
