Hourly Garage Labour Rates?

Jul 28, 2003 11 Replies

Totally depends on the make involved and whether you use main dealer,=20 specialist, normal generic garage and where you live.

For example in East Yorks the average labour charge is =A330 per hr for=20 run of the mill garage and the local Citroen dealership charges =A360 an=20 hour (prices inc VAT).

TBH on a 84 Range Rover you're not going to want to be paying main=20 dealer prices.

Cheap at half the price! BMW (Hungerford): £75.00 +VAT per hour labour. Jesus! (no wonder I get so much private work on the older BMWs)

alias: "Honest john's Motor's. Wiltshire." "I'll club a seal to make a deal!"

Nissan main dealer in Romford, Essex = £66 per hour inclusive.

William Jacks Wimbledon - 108 per hour. And they still f**k things up.

Can anyone advise please is there an average, hourly labour rate for garage services/repairs etc? Does it depend on the vehicle involved? (mine's an '84 Rangie)

Many thanks

Rob

FFS! *How* much?

just unbelievable. Imagine the cost of diagnosing an intermittent electrcial fault at those prices. JB

Another good reason not to live in London.

i pay about £20 at my local Apex auto care (leeds ls6) the only problem is you have to make sure the owner is about because otherwise there just not as good, but i think they have some new people in now.

Tom

But then London pay rates let you afford it...

Dave Plowman mumbled:

Not when I was there they didn't. Only if you wanted to work a lot harder than I'm prepared to.

For main dealer expect 70/hr +VAT.

30 (NOrth) to 40 (South) quid an hour is about normal for an independent.

Mobile mechanics can be cheaper as they don't have the overheads but may not be able to tackle all jobs because of their more limited equipment.

That garage at Kirkburn, just up road opposite Shell, is owned by the=20 brother of the guy who owns Broach Hill. He's called Morris and=20 apparently is an absolute genuis with Citroens. He also only charges=20 =A325+vat AFAIR. The guy who owns Broach Hill is now a millionaire and=20 keeps putting up the labour rates to try and turn business away,=20 they're that busy.
