Hourly Garage Labour Rates?

Question

Can anyone advise please is there an average, hourly labour rate for garageservices/repairs etc? Does it depend on the vehicle involved? (mine's an '84Rangie)Many thanksRob

Hi Rob,My dealer has a coffee area with a TV, and newspapers, and shiny metaltables,and chairs, and clean marble efffect tiled floors, and flowers set outnicely aroundthe place, and a service manager, and a receptionist, and a partsman, and asupervisor,and some technicians, etc etc etc, and he charges £90 per hour.A local mechanic (who was trained by the same dealer but who left to startandrun his own business) has none of the above, but charges £18 per hour.I know who I use . . .Dave

Similar to above - Land Rover Franchise charge about £90 for their technicians knowledge and the local garage who specialise in Land Rovers charge £30-£35 per hour. Not tried the guy who recently left the main dealer, but we have his number!

It is also worth considering that a £30 an hour geezer who knows what he is doing will do an hour's work in an hour. A £20 an hour monkey will take an hour to botch an hour's work and then another hour rebotching it.
