Leaks!

Have your windscreen removed and resealed. It's not too expensive and will almost certainly solve your leak problem. I had a similar problem with a Ford Escort several years ago.

Mine leaked enough to make a large puddle in the passenger footwell. Not knowing exactly where the water was getting in I just smeared a bit of vaseline around the bottom of the windscreen rubber seal and wiped the excess off with kitchen paper. If this worked I was going to use clear silicon. The next time it rained there was not a drop in the car and there's been nothing since. Have I silicon-ed it? Nah, 'course not :)

Be aware that silicone may not stick to everything ... I (unfortunately) found out that it wont stick to the rubber used in my hatchback seal no matter how much I smear on it, it just repels off of it as soon as its dry. I've just been recommended Holts Seelastik but have not had time to try it.

Ah MK2 cavalier is it? they were prone to screen leaks gun type bath sealer did the job you need to lift the rubber to get the nozzle in do the top as well you can remove the chrome insert to give more play but they can be a swine to put back in Derek

Ah. Yerse, I has a sunroof. I will try and investigate "the drains" as well as the gaps where the rubber doesn't meet the bodywork. I wonder where the drains are.

I think it's a MKII, but I'm no expert - it's a "J" reg, if that's a help. I can't see a chrome insert on the rubber, which is a piddly stringy thin thing with square corners that don't meet the bodywork.

No! Not silicone! It doesn't stick properly (as some people think it does) and just leaves a mess - total bodge.

Try your local motor factor or windscreen repairer for the proper stuff which is called Arbomast; it's a non-setting screen sealant. Failing that, you could use TigerSeal - that stuff will stick to _anything_, and won't peel off later like silicone does.
