What I want is a gluey paste to paint onto my bike's exhaust collector box doodah, and a flexible sheet of something enormously strong which will, on contact with aforementioned gluey paste, or when painted with more gluey paste, form itself perfectly into the shape of the exhaust and stick like chocolate to a toddler.
Oh, and never fall off.
Does it exist?

I have a sheet of something called "steel" in my garage. For the gluey paste, I'd use something similar to hot-melt. I think it's called "MIG wire".
Mind you, the box would probably end-up with more holes than it started with...
Cheers,
Colin.

The only non welding bodge that ever worked for me was a baked bean can cut up and pop riveted on with some gun gum under it.

Nooooooooooo!! Don't wanna. It'll probably create more holes anyway.
"Splodge"!?
There must be *some* product similar to that which I described. Something like a fibreglass mat...
Is fibreglass mega heat resistant? Don't think so; I'll Grrrrroogle it.

I do. But I'd still wade in anyway. Once I'd well and truly knackered it, I'd feel much better about buying a new box.
Cheers,
Colin.

It isn't - at least not if you use the normal polyester resin. Quite a few kit cars with sill-mounted exhausts have burned to the ground...
Cheers,
Colin.

I'd be quite happy to weld it up, take it to a good welder.

Heh!
~£320 for a complete new system. Don't know if I could buy just the silencer but I doubt it would come apart cleanly anyway.

Fairy nuff. The surrounding metal actually looked a bit more substantial than I'd first thought, but...
Introducing: Carplan super duper exhaust fixing bandage kit and a pot of exhaust repair paste from the local motor bits seller wot is only open on weekends on account of it being her late husband's shop and she only opens it in his memory, sortathing. All brown paper bags, written receipts, and
10% off for cash, it is.
You get a sheet of thick tin foil, a roll of stiff wire, and a decent length of VERY sticky black tape stuff. I'd only ever seen the kits with the stiff roll of gubbins that you had to soak before use but this was miles better. I put a squidge of paste over and around the holes, covered that with pieces of foil which formed the shape of the exhaust perfectly, laid the uber-sticky stuff, in strips, right over the whole thing, then smeared a generous layer of paste over the whole lot and smoothed down with water.
Right professional, it looks, and all for £3.60.
Me = chuffed.

Been there, tried that. Two weeks if you're lucky.
Yours pessimistically,

Oh, I know it might fall off, but it is on the top of the exhaust and the stuff was REALLY sticky, and I prepared it very well, so you never know. If it does come loose I'll just get it welded as has been suggested.
Part b) How to remove a rounded 6mm exhaust bolt:
Squirt with Plus Gas stuff.
Try all manner of gripping tools and find there's not enough space to turn them once on.
Try to drill down centre of bolt. Give up after just removing head of bolt and knackering lots of drill bits.
Aim blowtorch at little manifold surrounding bolt, go to 2.
Walk around with chewed stud and beaming grin. Try to explain heroism to missus. Missus not interested.

LOL I know that feeling well!
But if the pet moggie can bring home a dead thing (read prize) why is she so pleased with the moggie (even though we have to remove the aforementioned dead thing and barely get any thanks for doing so) ?!? WHY??

She obviously sees the cat as being a more successful hunter than you. Don't worry; most wives are like that. YOU try dragging a dead sheep onto the hall carpet, though, then spending the next six hours asleep in front of the fire, and they won't thank you.
Funny things, wimmin.
