Merc E180 wiper mechanism

Aug 14, 2006 1 Replies

A friend has a 1994 Mercedes E180. Yesterday the window wiper stopped working. I've checked and the fuse hasn't gone - you can hear the motor whirring.

I'm able to move the wiper across the windscreen with little resistance

- it's as though the wiper has come off it's spindle.

I haven't been able to investigate any further because I can't work out how to get at the wiper mechanism. There is a big plastic cover at the base of the wiper and I can't see how this comes off.

Anyone any suggestions? Are there common problems with these types of wiper?

Al

I've never had any problems with either of my E-class Mercs. The plastic cover unclips, but you have to lift the rubber seals from either side first. You'll also need to remove the "perforated" section of the vent cover to get access to the linkages.

If you have trouble with it, email me and I'll scan you the appropriate page from Haynes.

You could also ask in the forums at the MBOC -
