Micra (K11) Clutch Swap

Hi Folks,

I need to change the clutch on a Micra (K11, 1.0, 1993) in the very near future. The Haynes manual (bloody hell - when did they start printing them on toiler paper?) is very comprehensive, and it doesn't look too bad, except for a lot of fannying about with front suspension bits and driveshafts.

In particular, they say that the left hand driveshaft and hub carrier need to be removed, but only the right hand driveshaft. The section on removing the driveshaft says that they can be removed completely without removing the hub carrier - so is it really necessary to do so? Avoiding it means splitting one fewer balljoint, which I count as a good thing.

Any other tips will be very gratefully accepted! It's February, it's Scotland and I have to do the job outside on my back, so anything which makes it easier would be good to know.

Incidentally, I spent ages checking clutch kits prices on Ebay and online suppliers - and finally got my local spares place (3 miles away) to match the local factor's price (20 miles away) - and got a nice Valeo kit for less than anyone online could supply anything. Moral: don't forget the local guy.

PS Removing driveshafts on a DS: Jack up. Remove road wheels. Undo two small securing screws. Withdraw driveshaft. Optionally undo six nuts on each drive flange to keep the triaxes together. Total time for full job:

30 minutes on a bad day. Why can't everyone use inboard disks?

Oh don't be a poof. I just done an engine swap on a Corsa, by myself, in the street. 3 days and it's running fine. Bring it by, I'll do your clutch ;-)

You may well find it simpler to remove the engine in order to change the clutch
