M4 was virtually blocked, I decided to go for a meal in a motorway station.
There was a japanese curry meal clearly advertised for £5.99 by an enormous plackard on the floor outside the meal counter, so I had a go at this. He first asked "regular or large", I replied "Regular" of course since I don't want to balloon more than already. But the meal was rather smaller than expected, came in a little white box, like a little coffin, probably in my dreary imagination from a tired mind. I then gave him a tenner to settle, but was surprised that the change was only £2.81. queried this and he showed me the bill. To my surprise, they had added 20% VAT £1.20 to the £5.99 there and then.
I didn't think it was legal to adversite VAT excluded prices for a food outlet open for the public, not even specifying it was ex. VAT price?
I regret that I didn't raise a storm over this, e.g. rejecting the meal and demanding money back. but I was too tired too hungry, sat down and ate my little meal out of the little white coffin.
Then crawlwd back on the motorway. There had been two serious accidents at different locations, but also noticed at least 10 cars scattered along the hard shoulder on the way, guessing it was due to overheated engines in slow mowing traffic. Back home around 8:30 pm, what a day...
