I need another key for an 02 Astra. I have a key that works and I have the key number but the dealer price for a spare key is just slightly short of a hundred pounds.
Can anybody suggest a way to get another key at a more reasonable price?

From memory, the genuine remote keys are in the region of £60 retail, plus you've got the programming cost on top. The non-remote keys are about £20 or £30, but you've still got the programming cost.
You might be able to find an independant lock smith capable of supplying and programming keys, but I don't think it'll be that much cheaper than a dealer.
And if you think £100 is expensive, you don't want to know the prices for some of the other manufacturers.
There are indelpendents that can code keys. These people:
I assume this is a rolling code key 'cos a good locksmith will cut and code you a non-rolling-code key for about £25.
There's a specialist vehicle locksmith called Eydens (I think) in Coventry that quoted me £70 for a spare rolling code key for a Proton Satria which was about 2/3 the best main dealer price I could get.
£170 for the remote key for my Toyota Avensis (2001 model) and that was 2 years ago!!!! I kid you not! Fortunately the dealer agreed to go halves on the cost.
Thanks for the suggestions. It sounds as though I can improve on the price but not by much. Roger
