New windoscreen

I need a new windscreen for a mk4 golf 99' se. I've been getting some expensive quotes so far in the reigion of 3/£500.

I found one company called budget windoscreens and they can do it via a mobile service for £175 total.

Anyone heard of them or think its worth a go ?

Sadly I don't have windscreen cover on the insurance.

Peter smith gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

Small local windscreen companies will always be a huge lump cheaper than the big nationals.

£500 is ludicrous! A mega-expensive Ford heated one is around that amount.

Look here for an idea of prices:

Thanks Chris helped alot in idea of prices. What a price difference!! I would book it if they fitted near me. And their fitters have a minimum of 5 years experience. Bookmarked for if I ever move there occasion:)

I have searched around and round auto windscreen who want £223 fully fitted to be the best quote so far. But reviews suggest they are to be avoided like the plague.

But with light of the link above I shall keep looking.

Where are you? Generally your local car hire firms always know who's cheapest & trustworthy for windscreens.

You could try telling Fosters you work for 'The Bill'. They do (or did) the replacements for the cars used in the action where the screen etc is smashed. Of course if they've had a falling out in recent times could be a two edged sword. ;-)

Try AutoGlass, they are likely to be original anyway as auto windscreens are made by specialist companies such as e.g. Pilkington.

ALthough it necessarily be OEM if you get it fromn Autoglass, there's a big aftermarket in windscreens.

AutoGlass fitted a new rear screen to my SD1 under the insurance. Took them three goes to get it leak free. They didn't have a clue. Re-using a

20 year old surround rubber without using sealing compound. And when they decided they'd have to fit a new one to cure the leak, I had to pay for the part. And they scratched the paint when removing it. And I showed the fitter the BL workshop manual giving details of how it should be installed.
