oil change?

The copper washer on my SD1 drain plug has never been changed even after probably some 40 oil changes. Doesn't leak - yet.

national tyres etc are great - but watch out for the extras - your suspension is leaking and needs changing sir, that brake pad is dangerously low and that tyre will only last another year or two....

Doing that is a little tricky however when, as is the case for the Ka, the filter is mounted sideways :)

If you are flat broke and the car is a bit crappy and the starting *may* be hard (all assumptions, I know) then watch out as newer oil is thicker and will make the car harder to start as the cold weather approaches.

An oil change is usually a good thing. But these days the oil is quite good and you can go for quite a long time/distance on old oil eespecially if you're not looking to preserve your car and its engine for another 10 years. Of course, the car wont love you for it but the car won't die from it either.

Yes, that's something new for NT that I noticed too - the oil monkey poking around the corners of the car with a torch. He reported that it needed new front discs which I accepted with scepticism. When I got home I checked them and they are actually remarkably scored, a first for any car I've owned.

As they're a piece of piss to change though, I'll do them myself and then raise a glass to the NT monkey for spotting them for me :)

If I understand the top/bottom posting you are against changing the Oil and you try and sell a flat battery in another posting. Is this some sort of extreme cost cutting? I hope you have decent tyres, brakes and insurance - for my sake if no-one else's :-)

From everything I've heard, discs these days are the same old stuff and the pads are much tougher. So you end up replacing discs and pads more often than not, instead of pads, pads, pads, discs and pads, pads etc....

My car takes 3.5 litres of oil. I see that the National offer is for up to a maximum of 6 litres. If I'm paying for up to 6 litres can I take an empty oil can with me and ask if they will fill 2.5 litres so I can use it for top-ups. Or are they likely to tell me to f*ck off!
