When you press the switch in either diretion, the motor definitly whizzes round but no movement, sometimes it'll just go on until you release, sometimes it'll halt as if it had reached the end of movement. I was wondering if this is a common problem & could give some pointers before I take the whole thing to pieces :)

My F reg has rusted up. It tilts but wont slide. Taking it apart should make it clear if its repairable. Don't use your motor too much as it could burn out if nothing moves.

They have a slipping clutch in them to protect the motor in the event of seizure / user stupidity.

It's definitly not moving at all, sounds more like there's a gear wheel missing, the motor just sounds like it's whizzing round with out any contact with the roof at all. I've only just discovered it coz for some reason I haven't felt like having the recent weather blowing through my hair ;) As it goes, I'm not that bothered about fixing at the moment for the same reason!
