My 2002 Renault Laguna II 1.9DCI has suddenly reverted back to km from miles on the mileometer. The guy at my local renault dealership says that he thinks the whole speedo cluster needs to be changed at a cost of around =A3500.00 ???? surely this cant be right ?
anyone any ideas or quick fixes they might suggest ?
Taking the battery out, leaving it for an hour, and putting it back in has a non-zero chance of fixing it. I'd say that it's a very small chance. But, it's free to try.
Unfortunately, without detailed circuit diagrams of the dash, which are usually not available, not to mention firmware dumps of all the computing parts, it's almost impossible to attempt to fix it.
It's not a "board", it's Usenet. Contributors can be helpful, unhelpful, polite, rude, insane or indeed piss-takers. Oddly enough, it mirrors what I have found folks to be in real life.
Getting cross with posters, although sometimes tempting, won't help you resolve your problem I'm afraid.
I would guess that if the answer to your problem was something that could be resolved without an expensive trip to the dealer, someone would have let you know by now. Why not try some other dealers for their opinions? It seems the consensus here is that Renault dealers are often the worst of a bad bunch.
I got my Renault back from a rather wonderful little specialist this morning.
His words were "Renaults aren't bad cars, they just occasionally have mad ideas of grandure - that's when they get expensive"
N/S outer CV needed replacing, as mine's a 2.5 "Phase 2" Safrane that means replacing the bloody driveshaft.
Propshaft specialist quoted £95+vat to recondition it, but it'll take a week Motor factors ranged from £110+vat to £155+vat, all quoting a week to recon. Renault supplied a recon one from stock for £160inc vat, or new for £330+vat
Ended up going for the recon from Renault, but the Renault specialist only charged £25 to fit it, which was nice.
TBH, I've found my local Renault parts department to be brilliant - although I've needed to go there twice more than I'd have liked to
I have heard of Golf's getting this, and the only cure was a complete instrument cluster and re-program of the immobiliser as apparently it is a one piece unit in the cluster.
