Could anyone tell me if the gearbox from the (oldshape) 16v Rover 214 is compatible with the 8v engine?

Providing the "old" car uses the K series engine then the gearboxes are the same....both use the R65 unit.

...and they're crap. Before you even think about putting one into your car, check the input shaft has no free play because the bearings on it wear out quickly and make a rumbling noise when in neutral. Over time, it'll also wreck the oil seal on the shaft, and from there, the clutch.
