SRS light Rover 200

Hi all

Was after some advise as getting myself a lil worked up on situation :s

Anyway, I went out to my Rover 200 (1997 R reg) and when I was driving along I noticed the SRS warning light was on. I stopped and restarted and it cleared. Thought nothing more of it until I went out to move my car and it come on 3 times in a row before clearing.

I did a search for old threads and it said that its £650 + fitting and VAT if Rover want to replace the airbag :( I noticed some people also said that they checked a connection in the seat belt tensioners and was wondering more about this.

I do constantly have to move my seat forward and backwards to get in and somethings it slides back with a knock. Could this have do anything?

Any help really appreciated.

More than likely a bad connection on the wiring under one of the front seats for the seat belt pre-tensioners. As you move your seat regularly it sounds like the seat has snagged on the wires possibly. Should be a dead easy fix. :)

If he starts making to pull the seat out or doing in-depth fiddling, make sure you have the igntion off or, preferably, the battery disconnected. The chances of setting it off are slim, but since these things are either explosive or a massively strong spring you really don't want it going off unannouned.

If it's of the spring sort their may be a physical deactivation sequence for it - my BM has something of the sort.

Hopefully you won't be offended if I laugh - I used to work for the co. that supplied the airbag modules to Rover. The selling price was about £14.00. Yes, really - an 11g gas generator, 30 litre airbag, 2-shot cover, pressed steel container and 4 nuts. Assembled and warranted. Anything more is a ripoff. The SRS badge is heatstaked into the cover and )I understand) illuminates just prior to the airbag deployment. About 5 milliseconds before deployment. I understand that if it is on already, there may be a problem with the sensor module which may necessitate renewal of the sensor module. (which is made in France!)

No, not unless your knocks have disconnected/dislodged the connectors on the pyrotechnic buckle pretensioners for the seatbelt buckles.
